The term is now referred to as Palace Operator.

Here's a tip, if you want to be an Operator, don't ask.

Operators are nominated by and voted on by the palace staff.

Regular palace members who have special qualities and are noticed as a good
candidate by the others, are sometimes nominated. You may not get noticed overnight.
Most candidates are usually long time visitors, always polite and helpful, and stand out from the crowd.

Don't feel bad if you are not chosen. It's a big responsibility. So just visit the palace and enjoy.
